Pro-Russian former President Rumen Radev is set for a runaway victory in Bulgaria's election, as per official results. Radev's Progressive Bulgaria Party has sidelined several dominant political forces in this election. The win could potentially end years of weak coalition governments.
The party widened its parliamentary majority, having secured 44.7% of the votes after 91.68% of votes were counted, well ahead of other parties. But Radev will have to depend on other parties to govern since his party may not end up winning an outright majority in the 240-seat parliament. The performance, surpassing opinion polls, is one of the strongest results by a single party in a generation and may end, for now, the instability that led to eight elections in five years.
